April Meeting/Event

4/13/16 – IES Roadshow
Presented by Robert Dupuy, IES, IALD, LC

It’s Not a Pill, It’s Not a Cream, It’s the Lighting: Aging Vision and You
The aging population is exploding worldwide and it is going to affect you, your work, and the lighting industry. Learn from a leading expert in lighting and aging about how to adapt to the new reality. This presentation will explore how vision changes in later years, how older adults perceive lighting, and how to implement ANSI/IES RP-28-07, the accepted lighting standard for older people and low vision populations. Indeed, it is the lighting that improves lives.

Learning Objectives:
• Understanding the lighting needs of over 20% of the US population.
• Learning about the latest trends in lighting for the elderly and low vision populations.
• Understanding that aging is a world-wide phenomenon and its impact reaches far beyond senior housing.

Presenter:

Robert Dupuy, IES, IALD, LC
Principal
Robert Dupuy Consulting, LLC

During his 30 years of lighting design, Robert Dupuy has worked on almost every type of building from museums to hospitals, from embassies to theatrical retail. Trained as a theatrical lighting designer, Robert’s architectural lighting is firmly rooted in an aesthetic of collaboration with a sensitivity to how people feel and use architectural spaces. Robert is especially interested and focused on America’s growing population of older people. Robert applied this lifelong insight when he became one of the co-authors of the first comprehensive lighting regulation in the United States for nursing home residents. That document, adopted by the State of Oregon in 1992, formed the basis for his and others work in the creation of the ANSI approved Illuminating Engineering Society’s RP-28-07, Lighting and the Visual Environment for Senior Living which is recognized as the national standard for lighting for the elderly. He is the Chair of the IES Lighting for the Aged and Partially Sighted Committee and a member of the Low Vision Design Committee of the National Institute of Building Sciences in Washington, D.C. Robert has a M.F.A. in lighting design from the University of Oregon.
